Career Planning - Part 1

·        Career Planning
o       It can be defined as the following:

§        A goal that you desire to achieve in a selected field or occupation with a well thought out plan to get you there.
§        Career planning is simply goal planning with the intention of setting goals for jobs and career.
§        Getting information, and with that information, you make a goal, and then plan the steps needed to obtain that goal.
§        So, Mainly, Career planning is about having Information about YOURSELF, and about JOBS

Facts about Career Planning:

·        Career planning is not planning for that field on a one-time only basis, but it’s a continuing process; in fact, you can call it a lifetime process.
o       We are always learning and growing, and as we do, our interests and needs also change

·        Career planning is not just making plans to obtain your “perfect” job or career, but to help you make the many adjustments there will be along the way as you learn about you and your world or work.

·        Career planning is more than just looking at jobs and positions and working hard.

·        Importance of Career Planning

o       How many people change careers ?

In your family, relatives, friends, or anyone you know. You will find the majority of people are shifting from a career to another ( ex. from sales to accounting , from Secretary work to HR  … etc.)
§        Unfortunately that is the vast majority of people, if we came back to reasons of this

·        We weren't taught to plan for our career ( You didn't have a clue about joining Thanaweyya Amma , whether to be on the scientific section, or the theoretical section, )

·        We just follow the trends, People who join Science are the mind-masters, and the intelligent ones, ( though there's no rule to prove this at all )

·        Cultural problems, ( Once we are in Thanaweyya Amma they just keep saying, do your best to be an Engineer like your dad, or your cousin or whatsoever, and few are the parents who are aware of the Job Trends who can advice their children to join the college that has a real future

·        The problem continues to go on when we join college,
o       Why do u think that Business Administration, Marketing, Customs,  MIS, AIS … etc. are the sections that has the less number of people
o       In engineering, most of people join Civil Engineering, only FEW who join Nuclear, though it's the one with the most bright future
o       And this rule applies to all colleges that has specialization within

o       The A to B point

§        Career planning is all about saving time, money, and energy, and moving from one point to another

§        Instead of just trying each field that you can work, you can read about it in advance, and then assess each one and make your choice . and then start moving

§        For Commerce Students, Didn't you notice that most of people go for CMA, though only FEW who pass the exam, why not CFA, CIA, CPA, or any other certificate, BECAUSE IT'S A TREND

So, Career Planning is very Important that we should invest considerable time in it, to plan for our future, and walk the straight line, without going into dead-ended ways in the maze of life

  4. Replying on Sherif's Question

No, Reading is not enough to know about which career is the right for you
there should be other ways to know as :-

Reading Job Descriptions, Informational Meetings, Volunteering, Internships, and working in the specific position on a temp. basis
